The Brooks Rush Volleyball Club was founded in 2012, initially starting with a single U15 women's team. Since then, it has evolved into a comprehensive program serving athletes aged U12 to U18. Our coaching staff possesses varying levels of experience and expertise, yet they all share a profound passion for the sport of volleyball. They are committed to guiding our athletes in achieving their individual goals.

Steven's passion for volleyball was ignited in his youth and flourished throughout his school years. After school, he entered the workforce and later embraced parenthood. His love for volleyball was reignited when his eldest daughter began playing, presenting him with the chance to coach the Junior boys' team at her school. This allowed him to contribute to the community as he was supported by great community coaches in his own athletic development, pay it forward as well watch his three daughter's enjoy their sport.
In his coaching role, Steven was mentored by Stephen Leggitt, which deepened his understanding of volleyball. For over 15 years, he dedicated himself to coaching clinics, symposiums, and various levels of school/ club volleyball, mainly focusing on girls' programs. His journey led to the creation of his own club, initially under the guidance of Greg Ryan (AD) from the U of A Augustana Vikings ACAC. The club evolved from Viking Vikings to the Hornets Volleyball Club, which achieved a silver medal at the Provincials under his leadership.
Moving back to Brooks area, Steven now coaches the U17 Rush team and at Duchess School. His coaching career has been enhanced by working with respected mentors, including five years on the U of A's ACAC Augustana Vikings Men's Volleyball team as an Assistant Coach to Head Coach Stephen Leggitt, earning Gold and Bronze medals. He also progressed from Assistant to Head Coach at DIGGITT Summer Camps, working under Leo Van Dam for nearly ten years and learning from prominent figures like Greg Ryan, John Kessel, Adam Ewart. Stephen Enwright, and many other great coaches.
Steven holds certifications as a Certified Development Coach and a Trained Advanced Development Coach through Volleyball Canada/Alberta Coaching Program.

I live in Bassano but work in health care in Brooks and have teenage twins that keep me super busy. Besides volleyball, I've coached softball and ringette in the past. I love coaching volleyball as it is incredible to see and be a part of the growth in both individual and team play and it is a sport that is such a confidence builder for young women.
My assistant coach is Buffy Best- one of the best advocates for youth in sport that I know. This is her second year coaching as well. She lives in the Brooks area and works for Grasslands School Division. We think the 2025 season is going to be fun and exciting! Go Rush!

Helloooo out there! I’m Danny Henke, the Rush volleyball vice-president and one of two OGs serving on the board. My wife and I live near Millicent with our two amazing, and very busy, daughters. When I’m not running with the family, I can be found at the Duchess Rec, or in a gym, coaching. Outside of volleyball season, you’ll see me at the golf course, or on the diamonds coaching softball. I started coaching volleyball as a favor to my sister at St.Joe’s in 2006. What was to be a single season has turned into years of building players’ skill sets, and more importantly, players’ confidence. I believe that all of our athletes can be all.of.the.things.
